EXPERT WITNESS SERVICES
SEG,s expertise has been used by attorneys, private individuals and corporations in matters of civil litigation. It provides professional information, analysis and advice to resolve legal disputes in the following areas: Environmental Matters, Building Construction Disputes, Health and Safety issues, Code Compliance and Site Issues.
Our professional staff provides assessments, analysis, development of professional reports , strategic input for case development, and testimony in arbitration and litigation involving;
1. Building design and construction problems including the use of defective products.
2. Slip-fall incidents
3. Conditions in which the built environment influenced human behavior causing injury or death.
The majority of our experience during the past 25 years has involved cases that arise from;
-
Improper design of built environments
-
Improper construction (process or product)
-
Improper maintenance of both private and public facilities and their sites
SEG employs the extensive amount of research findings from the discipline of Environment-Behavior Studies (an integration of Architecture and Environmental Psychology) in its assessment of the conditions and in preparing for litigation.
For the past 15 years we have assisted many of our architectural clients with the design of Facility Risk Management Programs which serve as operations guides and safety plans. This has provided us with insights as to the quality of programs in existence at incident sites in preparing approaches to litigation. Our clients tell us that they like our courtroom presence and our multidimensional presentations addressing the issues. We are currently combining CAD Simulations and video imaging for both the purpose of investigation and presentation.
Many of our law firm clients ask us to review the most pertinent elements of a perspective case and provide those with a clear go-no go recommendation. This can usually be accomplished in several days for very little investment on their part.
Dr. Lawrence Seiberlich, is SEG,s expert in Environmental Psychology. He has designed over 700 projects as a practicing architect and is a former faculty member at the University of Minnesota's college of Architecture / Landscape Architecture. Seiberlich is involved in the discipline of Environmental Psychology which is a critically important compliment to Architecture. This discipline has become another window by which we assess and describe the behavior (or tendency to behave) of people within specific environments. It is helpful in understanding why people act or react as they do to cause injury to themselves or others.
C.N. Lundquist SEG President and CEO, has designed more than 800 projects as a practicing Architect and is an expert in construction matters. His advice changed the Uniform Building Code (UBC) of the United States in three areas. He has inspected more than 200 buildings for code violations and has provided expert testimony in many cases involving Code violations, defective products and /or improper methods used in the construction of buildings.
We Focus Our Practice In Three Areas:
-
Designing buildings and the management of their construction (particularly complex and critical environments).
-
Assisting organizations to manage change from the perspective of organizational structure, culture and development.
-
Providing expert reports and testimony on a variety of architecturally and construction oriented topics using the expertise mentioned previously.
We have established a construction process investigation service which provides assessment reports and testimony for construction process litigation and arbitration. Examples of issues of such investigation are:
-
Building code violations
-
Cost and schedule overruns
-
On-site accidents
-
Improper materials or unapproved substitution of materials
-
Poor or faulty construction practices
-
Misinterpretations of the construction documents
